Prospective 12 month study of 30 minute decision to delivery intervals for "emergency" caesarean section.

چکیده
Clinical governance requires evidence based standards of clinical relevance to assess performance. The recommended interval between the decision to perform an “emergency” caesarean section and the procedure is 30 minutes 2 but there is little objective evidence to support this recommendation. We conducted a prospective 12 month study in a large consultant obstetric teaching unit to examine whether the time between the decision to perform a caesarean section to actual delivery affects the success of the delivery.

As the other major European countries, Croatia has also seen a marked increase in the rate of caesarean sections. The aim of this study was to determine the most common reasons for caesarean section, to compare emergency and elective caesarean section in regard to intraoperative and postoperative complications in both mother and child, and to assess the decision-to-delivery interval (DDI) in ou...

BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVE A decision-to-delivery interval (DDI) of 30 minutes for emergency Caesarean sections (CS) has been widely recommended, but there is little evidence to support it. Recent studies however, have questioned not only the practicability of this target but also its anticipated beneficial effect on neonatal outcome and medico-legal implications. Our objective in this study was ...
متن کاملEmergency Caesarean Section: Influences on the Decision-to-Delivery Interval
RCOG/NICE guidelines recommend that, for fetal compromise in labour, delivery should be accomplished ideally within 30 minutes. In this study, we investigated the factors which affect the decision-to-delivery (DD) intervals for emergency caesareans. To achieve this, prospective data were collected for all grade 1 and 2 caesareans performed on a busy labour ward over 12 months. We found that the...
متن کاملImproving emergency caesarean delivery response times at a rural community hospital.
INTRODUCTION According to national organisations, obstetric services should be able to initiate a caesarean delivery within 30 minutes of the decision to operate. This is uniquely challenging in a small, rural hospital. In 2001, the authors' hospital was unable to meet this guideline reliably. This project demonstrates how we improved our emergency caesarean delivery response time. METHODS Th...
